our new best friend...

Gas drops. Wow! It is amazing how those things work! How come I never got them for my other children when they were babies??? I gave her a drop around noon when we were at a friend's house for lunch. We got home after 3 and all let loose in her diaper! I'm sure my little Sweet Pea is so relieved! And so is mama...I was feeling quite bad for her. She managed to poop again this evening too. My question is, how often do you give them? I also bought a humidifier today so hopefully it will help with her breathing at night.

Sweetie Pea

Yesterday Sweet Pea was cooing some more. This morning I dressed her in a beautiful dress that was her sister's way back when. I was telling her how beautiful she looked and she SMILED!!! That was really her first non-gassy or sleepy smile! It made her look even more beautiful!!! The past couple of nights she hasn't slept too well, but then again she hadn't popped much lately. She has been more alert lately and is really gaining weight! My friend was in church this morning with her 2 week old...boy what a difference!!! Boy, it all goes by so fast...cherish your babies...your children.

4 weeks

I can't believe Sweet Pea is 4 weeks old today. I really tried not to think about it because it makes me really sad to think how fast she is growing. If I thought about it too hard I'd probably burst into tears. Here are some pictures of her today. You can also click here to see a small web album of pictures. Regretfully I don't have any of Junior Squirrel...I really need to make a point to take some with him and the baby!
She's not smiling here but getting frustrated:

In Love

There's nothing in life like enjoying a newborn. I have really been enjoying every moment with Sweet Pea. I know how fast the time flies...my 'baby' is already 8! While I do have three other children to care for I really want to enjoy moments with SP. It is hard to believe she's three weeks old today. In some ways it seems longer, in others it feels like just yesterday I got to see her beautiful face for the first time. I sometimes miss our first moments together in the hospital...the times when it was just us, when I could really marvel at the gift God gave me. I have loved watching her learn how to do things. Simple things like latching on. We've learned together the art of breastfeeding, after all it had been about 3 years since I had a nurser! I love how she just cuddles right up to me as she nurses. Even at night as she sleeps in bed with me somehow she manages to maneuver herself right next to me. It is just precious. I love seeing the many faces she makes and hearing her grunts. Last night she must have been dreaming and was making the cutest little noises in her sleep. I love her little fingers gripping one of mine, love watching her try to see the world around her. I even enjoy her cries, which aren't many and I don't mind changing her diapers. The time with her will be fleeting...time just seems to cruise right by, but I plan to enjoy every moment with her. Thank you Lord for this precious gift You created! Help me Lord not to become preoccupied, but to enjoy my Sweet Pea.

It all paid off!!!

So, for the last four days I've nursed on demand, pumped some and SP had a bottle only like twice. She went in for her two week check-up today and weighed in right at her birth weight- 6 lbs. 3 oz!!!! Go baby!!! She's also now 18 3/4 inches long compared to her 17 1/2 at birth!!! I'm so thankful that I followed my intuition and just nursed her as needed rather than giving her formula! God's way is always the best...and in this case its breastfeeding!

Sweet Pea

Well, Sweet Pea only grew 2 ounces since we left the hospital (5 days ago). It is hard to believe she's 8 days old! Yesterday I'd told the kiddos it was her birthday (a week) and Booty Shaker asked when she was going to get her presents! Sometimes all she wants to do is sleep, sleep, sleep! I will strip her down and she still won't wake up! She sleeps pretty well at night. Most of the time she's in her cradle next to our bed, but sometimes I end up falling back to sleep with her. Last night she was in her cradle the majority of the night and she did great- either she or I would wake up every 3 hours (once it was 2 hrs.) and she'd eat. I think I've been dealing with drug withdrawals or something. I usually took Percocet at night (more so than in the day) and the past two nights I wake up with chills or sweating. I don't think I'm sick or anything like that and during the day I don't feel as bad. I have been taking advantage of Zach being home and I've been napping at least twice a day. It sure feels good to get that sleep in that is disrupted at night. Of course this little girl is worth some sleepless nights! I'll try to post more pictures soon.

Mornings are so special. The kiddos all crawl into bed and we'll just admire the baby as she lays there or nurses. It is so sweet having that time together. So far everybody has adjusted real well.

Oh, and Booty Shaker has slept in his bed for 2-3 nights in a row!!! I am so proud of him! Keep it up my boy! It's funny...he always seemed like my tiny boy until Sweet Pea came along. Now he seems like a giant!

Our Newest Blessing

Abigail Hope (aka Sweet Pea) was born yesterday at 1:23 via c-section. She weighed 6 lbs 3 oz and is 17 1/2 inches long. She is tiny yet has chubby cheeks! She reminds me a lot of what Booty Shaker looked like as a baby.

I had my amnio and it went fine. I don't really know what the big deal is with them...it really wasn't bad at all. First they did an ultrasound and we met with the doctor and she explained everything and answered our questions. Then right before I got SO nervous I was crying a bit! But it is all ultrasound guided and so quick and painless. Really, the anticipation is the worst. Of course you worry about baby too, but they found a pocket away from her and everything went well.

I was then sent up to Labor & Delivery to be monitored and await the results. It was the longest hour of waiting and I just prayed that everything would work out according to God's plan. The nurse came in and said, "You're having a baby today!" I just started to cry I was SO excited! Wasn't nervous about it at all!!! I didn't think my doctor would do the section because it was getting to be past lunchtime, but he came for 1 pm and did it. From what the nurses and all were saying he's very good at it. With my section with Chatterbox I don't remember feeling a thing, but this time I could feel tugs and all that. And I could move my legs way quicker than I had with CB.

They had to put Abby on oxygen for awhile (I think maybe off and on for a half an hour) and they took her to the nursery to monitor her so I really didn't get to see her until just after 4!!! THEN she didn't nurse until after 7! I was a bit ticked about that, but they were wanting to monitor and make sure was was ok and she's been just fine. Nursing is going great. The first few times it took quite awhile to get her to latch on (she just wanted to sleep) but the past couple of times she did great. She is so sweet and adorable. It is unreal to me that I am holding this gift that I carried for what seemed like so long. I am very thankful for everybody's prayers and congrats (and thanks Angie for posting a quick update).

I had my CAT scan done this morning nice and early (gotta love how they wake you up early)! Still waiting to hear what the word on that is but the OB said they can go ahead and do what they need to to remove the stones and stint. I sure hope they're able to take care of it today or tomorrow. I'll be here in the hospital until Thursday I think they said.

Today I will have to get up and walk around more and I'm hoping they can take the catheter and IV out soon! It sure will help with moving around! I have some pain but it hasn't been too bad. My uterus is still contracting when I nurse (probably because I haven't done it too much yet) but I'm hoping it will get to 'normal' soon. It is weird not to have such a big belly anymore!

So I suppose you would like to see some pictures? Alright, here they are! Enjoy!
